Garcinia Cambogia, a dietary supplement seems to be all the rage in weight loss at the moment.
Is it a phase, another gimmick to lose weight or does it in fact work?
As a sceptic, I have decided to trial Garcinia Cambogia and Cleanse Catalyst Plus, a detoxifying supplement.
I started 3 days ago by taking 2 Garcinia Cambogia capsules in the morning one hour before breakfast and 2 Cleanse Catalyst Plus capsules one hour before dinner. My research on these products thus far advise that they are best taken on an empty stomach so they can “do their work”.
Here are the dosage details for a Garcinia Cambogia capsule
- Garcinia Cambogia 1000mg (50% HCA minimum)
- Vitamin C 20mg (Not used in all brands of Garcinia Cambogia)
- Chromium 50mcg
- Other ingredients: Gelatin, Magnesium Stearate and Silicon Dioxide
and for Cleanse Catalyst
- Aloe Vera, White Oak, Slippery Elm, Blue Vervain Herb, Gentian, Psyllium Husk, Senna and Gold Seal.
There are so many questions being asked about these types of products on the internet. One particular concern is whether or not these supplements are recommended to take whilst breastfeeding. The answer is simply NO!
Do not take these supplements if you are breastfeeding. Nursing mothers need to be mindful of a good nutritious diet, with good nutritional intake. This means, not skipping meals or using meal replacement products. These supplements suppress your appetite which is what you do NOT want to be doing while you are breastfeeding. It is recommended that you at least consult with your doctor if you still intend on trying these products for weight loss.
I hope that all nursing mothers take note of the consequences of suppressing their appetite whilst lactating and breastfeeding. If you skip a meal, due to feeling full from these supplements, you are at risk of having your blood sugar levels drop. In saying that, it is not recommended that Diabetics take this supplement either as you do not want to exacerbate your Diabetes symptoms.
Stick to a healthy nutritious diet. Graze throughout the day on healthy food. Breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. Keep up your fluid intake. Water is the best drink for hydration and to assist with a good milk supply.
